Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps work by extracting heat from the air outside, which is then used to heat up the property and provide hot water. Additionally, in comparison to gas and oil boilers, air-source heat pumps run on electricity and renewable source of air, making air-source heat pump systems much lower in emissions and therefore more environmentally friendly. 

Air source heat pump systems are far more complex than traditional heating and hot water systems. They are ‘low temperature’ systems that are highly prone to poor performance and high energy consumption if they are not designed and installed correctly.

At Delta T MEP, we are fully competent in hydronic system design. Every installation begins with a space-by-space thermal heat loss survey. This is carried out by an engineer who understands installation processes, this is not done by a salesman.

The survey allows for a kW value to be assigned to each space, which in turn produces a heat loss figure for the entire property. This allows the air source heat pump to be provisionally sized.

We then consider the volumetric flow rates required to deliver the appropriate thermal energy to each heat emitter, which broadly dictates the size of the pipe work.

For retrofit installations, we evaluate the already installed pipe work and see what options are available to ensure optimal performance. Heat emitter sizing shall be carefully considered.

We also deliver commercial installations being skilled in larger bore copper, flanged and screwed steel, Victaulic pipe work. From risers to rooftops or building-wide distribution we can deliver in commercial and industrial settings.
